Random funniness
Few people were surprised that the 59th annual Miss Universe Pageant winner was again from Earth. This year’s earthling winner was from Mexico solidifying Earths domination of the Miss Universe Pageant.
Started as a planet Earth “bathing beauty” competition spearheaded by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, CA, the Miss Universe pageant has metamorphose into an intergalactic annual tradition with countless young women vying to become the next Miss Universe.
Several Scifi nerds have called foul, saying the judging favors Earthly humanoids. According to one protester, “for years women from Venus or Venitians have been shunned by the Miss Universe Pageant tribunal. If you prick a Venitian does she not bleed? …I actually don’t know but I would assume she would.”
Pageant judges contented that this year’s winner is from Mexico and in a way constitutes our first kind of “alien” winner.

Misc.
So I started off the summer with my first ever surgery (and first ever stitches) when I had my herniated umbilical fixed. Good news is I now have an inny belly button again. It took about a month to heal. It sucked for a while since I couldn’t sleep on my stomach. I was able to borrow a mini fridge and microwave for my room and Esbeydy took care of me.
After the surgery I started getting some stomach pains. At first I thought it was a mild food poising but it started getting more frequent and more painful. I got a stomach attack while stuck on a train from Modesto to Bakersfield and then had to drive almost 2 hours home from Bakersfield. I went to urgent care the next day and the doctor thought it was a stomach ulcer. I then met with my doctor and he thought it might also be a stomach ulcer as well. I started some tests to see if it was a stomach ulcer. Since I was going on a little getaway the next day the doctor gave me some antacid type mix in case I got another attack.
That weekend while celebrating the wedding of my good friends Niko and Ana in Lompoc I got another stomach attack. The `antacid mix didn’t work and while in my Solvang Hotel I almost passed out from the pain. It gotso bad I was curled up on the bathroom floor with tears streaming down my face from the unbarable pain. I finally got the strength to drive myself to the ER in Solvang. The Solvang hospital was a small, empty hospital. When I got there I was the only patient in the ER. I told them I was being tested for a stomach ulcer so they gave me some sort of pepto mix and had me wait. While I waited for the pain to go away they brought in an old lady. All attention went to her. apparently she was one funny old lady. I waited for a doctor or nurse to check on me for hours eventually my whole body started buzzing. It started with my hands, then spread to my face and then the rest of my body. Finally I mustered up enough voice to call out for a nurse. Finally one came but with an attitude for caller her over. I told her I was buzzing all over and she said she’d get a doctor. About an hour later the doctor finally came over but demanded I have a ride home before she gave me any pain killers. I told her there were people from the wedding in the area and getting a ride would be no problem. She demanded I call someone first. Since I didn’t feel cool with waking anyone up at 4 in the morning I said I would just get a cab. She then asked me to call a cab first. Believe it or not I didn’t know the number to any cab services in Solvang. I called Esbeydy and had her call me a cab. Finally (about for excruciating hours later) they gave me a shot of dulated and surprisingly the pain went away and so did the buzzing! They suggested that I just was having a nervous breakdown (maybe from all the pain!!). I got back to the hotel at about 5am.
I didn’t have another attack for another couple days but back it came. I headed back to the ER this time to the Northridge hospital. Again I told them I was being tested for a stomach ulcer. This time when the doctor examined me she press on my stomach and asked if it hurt there. With my eyes rolled to the back of my head I yelled out YES!! She then said I think you might have gall stones. She then ordered a ultrasound. When the results came back it was confirmed that I was not suffering from a stomach ulcer but from gall stones. They admitted me to the hospital as soon as a room became available. About an hour after that I was wheeled in for my second surgery within 3 months. The ended up taking out my whole gall bladder since it was highly inflamed. The surgeon did a great job and I recovered quite fast. The nurses were very nice and took good care of me. Esbeydy bless her heart spent almost an entire 24 hours by my side. The only problem I had with the Northridge hospital was the overseeing doctor assumed I was a drug addict because of my tattoos I’m guessing and would not prescribe me any pain killers. This seemed a little odd since I had just been cut open. I thought it was customary to have some pain killers to go home with.
Well I’m back home, back to work, and back to 100 percent. Damn after writing a blog about this horrible experience I think I need to write a few letters to some hospitals about caring for their patients.

The wife and I had a great extended anniversary this year. We’ve been married for 4 and half years but celebrate our anniversary of our wedding (July 1st) rather our courthouse wedding. This is also the first anniversary that we didn’t have the kids around (including our wedding/honeymoon). We started with dinner and presents on Thursday July 1st and I surprised her with tickets to Catalina Island that Saturday.
We got up early to catch the 9am ferry out of San Pedro. The boat ride was nice (minus the Indian family reunion with 30 kids all around us). This was our first trip to Catalina Island and really didn’t know what to expect. It’s a cute little town with little shops and little houses.
The first thing we did when we hit land was find a breakfast spot, since we didn’t have time for breakfast before we left. We found a cool restaurant (I think it was called Alexander’s). While waiting for a table I saw a guy put in his down that looked and sounded just like Ralph. I asked him if he was a de Unamuno and sure enough it turns out the guy was Ralph older brother. Talk about small world!! The breakfast was great. I had a peanut butter and jelly waffle and shared a cheese hash brown. After breakfast I marched across the street and got myself an energy shot. Ralph brother let us use his beach chairs and umbrella while they went sightseeing.
After a little rest Esbeydy and I walk up and down and all around Catalina Island. It was pretty packed since it was 4th of July weekend. We check out all the little shops, checked out the Casino that not a casino anymore and found Douche bag park. Oh my! Around the corner from the Casino was one of the most densely infested douche bag communes I’ve ever seen. It really gave Vegas a run for its money per capita. I won’t complain about all the cute girls in bikinis. That part was ok.
We walked back to the main part of Catalina Island and grabbed a coffee and drank it by the beach and cuddled. at about 4pm we decided to get lunch at an Italian restaurant called Antonio’s. I ordered the sour dough bread pizza and Esbeydy got the Fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp (just to make sure I didn’t eat any of her food!) Breakfast and lunch turned out to be great on Catalina.
After lunch we had pretty much done Catalina Island. We probably should have reserved an early boat back but I reserved the last boat back at 9:30pm. It would have cost $10 to change our tickets to an earlier boat. By 6pm the Island was starting to look disserted. By 9:30pm we were dead tired and ready to head home.
We had a blast on Catalina Island. Next time we might go with another couple or two, bring a chair or get a room on the Island. Bon Voyage Catalina may the tides bring us together again!
